A Baby

Over the summer we started thinking more seriously about starting our family.  While we were dating and when we were first married we always knew that we wanted to wait a couple of years and get through school before starting a family.  Those two years came faster than I thought possible!  Davis was ready to start our family long before I was!  My dream has always been to be a mom and I knew one day I would be ready, I just did not feel old enough to already be at this stage of life!  Back in the spring we got put into the sunbeams in our ward.  Well that did it for me.  They were the cutest kids and we treated them like our own.  Being around them made me realize that I was ready for motherhood and realized even more that Davis was ready to be a dad.  We prayed about our decision and felt like it was the right time to start our family.  I went off of birth control at the end of September and figured that it would probably take a few months to get pregnant.  In October I had some health concerns and my doctor told me that it would not be a good idea to get pregnant until we made sure everything was ok.  We of course listened to his advice and waited until November to begin trying.  The first of December we took a pregnancy test and could not believe when it was positive.  I had to take two more just to be sure I wasn't just imagining that little plus sign!  There were so many feelings that came with the news.  We were shocked that it happened soooo fast!  I felt almost guilty that it was so easy for us and yet so many people struggle.  We were nervous for what was to come and hoped this little one would be able to grow healthy and strong.  We felt unbelievably blessed that we were given this opportunity to become parents.  And above all we were so excited too start our little family!  Around six weeks I began spotting.  I knew that it was pretty common, but that it wasn't a good thing.  I was a mess.  It was something that we had to get through together because we had not told anyone at this point.  I immediately called my doctor and they were so good with me.  They told me to come in that day to have blood work done and then told me to come back a few days later.  Waiting for the news was pure torture.  We prayed that everything would be OK and that the baby would continue to grow.  We found out on Christmas Eve that everything looked good and that my levels were increasing.  We were so happy and so grateful for this news!  We decided that we wanted to tell our families on Christmas.  I was only about 7 weeks along at this point, but thought that Christmas would be the perfect time to tell them.  Our families were both so very excited!  We gave a gift to each of our moms to reveal the big announcement!  We made them each a boarding pass that was for Baby Van Wagoner.

When my mom first opened it, it took her a minute to figure out what it was.  Kaela asked where we were going.  She thought that the boarding pass was legit!  And then my mom said "THEY ARE HAVING A BABY!"  My mom, dad, Kaela and I started crying.  We were able to tell Dave's family later that day and they were all just as excited!

We had our first appointment on January 9th.  I thought for sure when the doctor went to do the ultrasound that he would say there was no baby in there!  Once I saw that little peanut on the screen and saw its little heart beating I was in shock!  That was when it finally felt real for both Dave and I.  It was the cutest little thing ever!  I couldn't believe how much love I already felt for it.  We could not be happier about becoming parents and feel so blessed to be able to have the opportunity!  We are so excited for this next step in our lives and all the adventures that will come with it!
